Report: Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott Will Be First $60 Million Quarterback According to NFL Writer
Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

The Dallas Cowboys are entering the 2024 NFL season with a lot of uncertainty. That uncertainty centers around how much longer key personnel will remain with the organization. This includes Cowboys QB Dak Prescott, who is entering the final year of his contract with Dallas.

At the time of writing, there has been no agreement on an extension. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is not optimistic an agreement will be reached before the 2024 season begins. Despite this, one NFL writer firmly believes Prescott will be the first QB to make $60 million per year annually.

Dak Prescott Will Get $60 Million Annually According to Mike Spofford

Packers.com does an inbox article series where fans get to ask members of the website’s staff questions about relevant topics around the NFL. During the last inbox series, one fan asked Mike Spofford, the editor of packers.com, if he thinks Prescott will earn the same amount of money as other elite quarterbacks in the NFL. Spofford responded with the following

“Because he’s in the final year of his current deal in 2024, I think there’s a decent chance Prescott becomes the first $60M QB in the NFL… he’ll get it the way QB salaries keep escalating.” -Mike Spofford

Will the Dallas Cowboys Pay Dak Prescott?

An important note to the above is Spofford does not believe that money is guaranteed to come from the Cowboys. Jones has let the contract negotiations go on for an extensive period. As a result, there is no guarantee that Dallas ends up giving Prescott a max contract. If the Cowboys are not willing to pay Prescott, Spofford believes that Prescott will have no trouble finding another suitor:

“I just don’t know if he’ll get that money from the Cowboys or someone else.”

-Mike Spofford

Dak Prescott By the Numbers

The Cowboys are in a difficult position with Dak Prescott. This team has had high expectations for the past three seasons. Yet, Dallas has won just one playoff game during this stretch. The Cowboys are just 2-5 overall in the playoffs since Prescott took over as starting quarterback.

Prescott has been perceived as a borderline top 10 quarterback for the past few years. Yet, there are also questions as to whether that is his ceiling as an NFL quarterback.

What has he done throughout his career? He has nearly 30,000 passing yards and 202 touchdown passes in eight years with the Cowboys. We will have to see if that will justify another contract extension from the Cowboys.
