Dolphins' Tyreek Hill says Mike McDaniel called him out after playoff loss to Chiefs
Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

It was a tough way to end the season for the Miami Dolphins in 2023.  After dropping a 21-14 game and the division to the Buffalo Bills in Week 18, Miami was shipped off to a historically frigid Arrowhead Stadium to face the Kansas City Chiefs.  That went poorly, with Miami losing 26-7.

However, for one Dolphin, it was a particularly strong failure - at least according to his coach, allegedly.  Tyreek Hill mentioned recently on the Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast that his head coach Mike McDaniel called him out after his performance in the game, specifically how he was handled by Chiefs CB L'Jarius Sneed.  ( strong language warning

"Against Sneed," Hill said. "Everybody see the play against the Chiefs.  Motherf----- jammed me to the floor.  He called me out.  He was like, 'Reek, bro, you're supposed to be the f---ing best player in the f---ing league, and you've got this guy putting hands all over you like that.  We're paying you all this money, for what?'  And for me, I love sh-t like that because I'm going to take that sh-t to heart and I'm going to get better for it.  That'll never happen to me again in my life.

"If a motherf----- isn't holding me accountable, I feel like I'm not going to be able to get better.  Obviously, the coaches can bypass that and be like 'ah, he'll get better from it', but if he's not saying nothing, the other guys in the locker room, they're gonna look at it as, 'well, if Reek can do it, I can do it.'  And that's not getting the team better.  I need everybody to get better."

So, it appears, according to Hill, that McDaniel indeed put him on blast for the play against the Chiefs when Sneed jammed Hill into the turf right after the snap.

It was a forgettable game for everyone on the Dolphins' offense, including Hill, who scored Miam's only points on a 53-yard touchdown in the second quarter.  For the rest of the game, Hill was completely bottled up by Sneed and the Kansas City defense, totaling just 4 catches for 9 yards.

Miami needed more from a lot of people that night, from Tua Tagovailoa to the offensive line to the pass rush and beyond.  However, Miami's speedy superstar wasn't able to deliver with the performance for which he was acquired and paid to put up.

We'll see if the Dolphins can make the third time be the charm as far as Hill becoming a playoff hero for the Dolphins next season, as Miami looks to win its first playoff game since December 2000.
