Despite having a new manager in Craig Counsell and a new star pitcher in Shota Imanaga, fans of the Chicago Cubs still feel that there is one major piece of unfinished business.
The Cubs hosted their annual “Cubs Convention” – otherwise known as “Cubs Con” – over the weekend. As Tom Ricketts, the team’s owner (along with his siblings) and chairman, gave a speech to kick off the festivities, fans in attendance decided to send a strong message. They began loudly chanting for outfielder Cody Bellinger.

Former NL MVP Bellinger spent last season on the Cubs and quickly became a fan favorite. He enjoyed a resurgent year, hitting a career-high .307 to go with 26 homers and 97 RBIs in 130 games. Bellinger was also a defensive stud – playing at both first base and center field – and helped the Cubs finish above .500 for the first time since the pandemic-shortened 2020 season.
But over two months into free agency, the Cubs still have yet to re-sign Bellinger. Recent reports suggest it may only be a matter of time, though. Now Cubs fans are lobbying ownership to get it over the finish line.
