Report: White Sox to promote Lenyn Sosa
Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

It appears the injury bug has claimed another South Side victim.

According to James Fegan, the White Sox are expected to promote infielder Lenyn Sosa to the majors, and he will be with the team in Minneapolis. While nothing has been confirmed, reports are that Tim Anderson will be placed on the IL following today’s injury.

Anderson’s expected occurred Monday when a botched rundown play led to a collision with Twins outfielder Matt Wallner at third base. Anderson immediately went down but was able to get up and stay in the ballgame for a couple of innings before eventually being removed from the game. While nothing has yet been confirmed, initial rumors suggest that Anderson will miss only a couple of weeks and does not need surgery on the injured knee.

Anderson had gotten off to a solid start both at the plate and in the field, hitting .298 and having yet to make an error at shortstop. The longtime South Side shortstop joins Eloy Jimenez (hamstring), Joe Kelly (Groin), Matt Foster (Forearm), Garrett Crochet (Tommy John), and Liam Hendriks (Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma) on the White Sox injured list.

Anderson’s spot on the roster is reportedly being taken by 23-year-old infield prospect Lenyn Sosa, who has gotten off to a blazing hot start in Triple-A Charlotte. In nine games, Sosa has slashed .448/.556/.828 in Charlotte. While it is unclear just how much playing time he will get, the team is likely to shift Elvis Andrus to shortstop and split second base playing time between Sosa and Romy Gonzalez. Sosa didn’t have much success in just 35 big league at-bats in 2022, but inconsistent playing time may have heavily contributed.

Should the White Sox have to, unfortunately, put Anderson on the IL later, we will continue to provide updates.
