Lewis Hamilton ‘s bombshell move to Ferrari has been sealed for the 2025 season and beyond. Mercedes’ current struggles have made a majority of the people on the grid label the move as a good decision. However, Ferrari has also notoriously earned the fame to acquire drivers after their prime years and see their exit from the sport. Amidst this, the former F1 driver, Jacques Villeneuve has shared his thoughts regarding the late-career move for Hamilton.

Jacques Villeneuve lauded Lewis Hamilton with praise for his strong performances over the years. Villeneuve labeled the Briton as the ‘greatest of all time’ regarding his history in Formula 1.

Additionally, the Canadian pointed out how the 39-year-old was moving to the team with the biggest image in the sport.

Lewis has seven Championships. He is the greatest of all time with his achievements. And he’s going to the biggest team in history that has the biggest image. Jacques Villeneuve said, as reported by PlanetF1

However, the 53-year-old wasn’t hesitant to point out the negative side of joining Ferrari so late in his career. According to Villeneuve, Maranello was completely chaotic and political due to Italy’s love for the team. Ferrari continues to be an emotion for the Italian fans and hence, they could be extremely quick to judge.

But also a very chaotic team, a very political team, a very difficult team where the whole of Italy loves you or hates you in five seconds. Jacques Villeneuve noted.

Jacques Villeneuve deems Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton as an ‘interesting’ line-up

Lewis Hamilton will be paired with Charles Leclerc at Ferrari, replacing Carlos Sainz. Hence, a highly experienced driver will go up against a relatively less experienced driver. Villeneuve explained that this was different from the other drivers who raced at the Italian constructor without many victories.

[Hamilton] hasn’t been built. He’s actually won his championships; he’s won his races; he’s achieved it all. Which is very, very different than other drivers that have been put in Ferrari without championships, without wins, but where Ferrari has tried to build their image as champions. Jacques Villeneuve mentioned.

The Canadian claimed that Leclerc was building his image but hasn’t shown it yet. Hence, the battle between the two drivers would be ‘interesting’ to watch. Villeneuve further raised questions over Hamilton as to how he would fare against Leclerc who has the potential to become world champion.

For example, Charles has a built image, but he has not shown it yet. That will be interesting to see the two fight it off. How will the one that’s achieved it all compare to the one who’s said to be a champion but isn’t yet? Jacques Villeneuve concluded.

The huge amount of background difference between Hamilton and Leclerc would ensure maximum excitement for the fans. The former has been racing in F1 since 2007 and is one of the best to ever do it. Leclerc on the other hand, has shown glimpses of what he’s capable of. Keeping in view everything that has been discussed, the 2025 F1 season will be a fascinating watch.
